Company sees early momentum for new HD and SD editing and finishing system

Tewksbury, MA – December 15, 2005 – Avid Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVID) today announced that more than 45 leading postproduction facilities and rental houses – including AlphaDogs, Inc.; A&A Post; Chainsaw; Editional Effects; FotoKem; Matchframe; Phase Three; Runway, Inc.; Towers Productions; and Wexler Video – have purchased the Avid® Symphony™ Nitris® system. Avid’s newest nonlinear editing and finishing solution for HD and SD production begins shipping today – and is available through the company’s worldwide reseller channel.

“Most of our projects are long-form shows with tight deadlines – many even require same day turnaround,” said Bill DeRonde, president of Los Angeles-based post facility, Chainsaw, who recently purchased Symphony Nitris after participating in the beta program. “Symphony Nitris is ideal for this type of work because its conform offers the fastest, most complete way to HD and SD finishing from our other Avid offline systems. Based on our experience using the system on VH1’s ‘Big in ’05,’ we expect it to be a key part of our facility’s HD capability and a real workhorse for us.”

Matt Allard, senior product manager at Avid, said, “Based on the initial customer response, we believe the Symphony Nitris system has hit the mark – in terms of core features that our customers need to support the growing amount of HD projects coming through their doors. For post facilities handling feature film and television work, time is money, and the Symphony Nitris system will help them complete HD projects as quickly as in SD. With delivery requirements for HD work continuing to evolve and customers facing new project demands, we will continue to provide features that improve workflow efficiency and quality of work.”

The Avid Symphony Nitris system is the only nonlinear HD and SD finishing solution on the market to offer guaranteed real-time editing and effects for multi-stream 10-bit HD and SD media as well as HD Total Conform with the industry-standard Avid Media Composer® product family. By combining the proven Symphony finishing toolset with the Avid Nitris Digital Nonlinear Accelerator™ (Avid DNA™) hardware, the Avid Symphony Nitris system is ideal for film and broadcast television professionals who need to handle large volumes of work that require intense image processing and a distributed workflow.
