Live Event Brings Soarian Enterprise Clinicals, Financials and Health Information Management Together for Improved Workflow.

Leominster, Mass., Dec 14, 2005, Siemens Medical Solutions and HealthAlliance Hospital of Leominster, Massachusetts, announce that HealthAlliance Hospital is live on Soarian®, Siemens’ new generation, workflow-engineered health information solution that supports patient-centered care. HealthAlliance Hospital implemented Soarian over the course of 18 months, and is the first facility in the country to go live enterprisewide on the clinical, financial, and health information management (HIM) applications of Soarian simultaneously. Approximately 1,750 users are accessing the system and more than 10.6 million results have been converted for use in Soarian from HealthAlliance’s legacy health information system.

According to Richard Mohnk, chief information officer, HealthAlliance Hospital, “Siemens provides us with fully integrated solutions. With Soarian, the staff and physicians are able to raise the bar in terms of patient care delivery, evaluation of patient outcomes, improvement in documentation, and support in reducing medical errors and paperwork. Soarian’s workflow technology also pushes needed information to the appropriate user, improving productivity and reducing duplicate work.”

Siemens total Soarian customer base represents 277 U.S. healthcare facilities and 19 international sites. Nearly 140 active Soarian implementations are currently underway, and more than 100 facilities are live on Soarian modules, demonstrating the positive impact of Soarian’s advanced workflow technology on their operations.

Additionally, leveraging the power of Soarian’s unique-to-healthcare workflow engine, several sites are live on workflows to support key infection control issues, patients at risk for deep vein thrombosis, nothing-by-mouth protocols for radiology procedures, patient factors assessments, patient factors completion on admission, admission assessments and abnormal vital signs. These technology-driven workflows are designed to help users improve efficiency, productivity, patient safety, and clinical and financial outcomes, while supporting regulatory compliance.

“We are pleased by the positive reception that Soarian is receiving at HealthAlliance Hospital,” said Tom Miller, president, healthcare Information Technology (IT) Division, Siemens Medical Solutions. “With its innovative workflow architecture, Soarian represents a quantum leap in clinical system functionality - orchestrating the many simultaneous and complex processes of healthcare. This recent implementation at HealthAlliance Hospital demonstrates the significant momentum that is continuing with Soarian as healthcare providers seek to increase efficiencies and improve care coordination through IT solutions.”

“We are extremely excited to roll out this leading edge technology not only for our staff and physicians but for our patients and communities,” commented Patrick Muldoon, president and CEO, HealthAlliance Hospital. “HealthAlliance Hospital is on the forefront of implementing advanced information technology that provides a healthcare organization with both sophisticated capabilities and real benefits. In our quest to provide outstanding care for our communities, Soarian applications are the tools that will allow us to maximize our services and bring us into a new era in healthcare.”

Soarian integrates clinical, financial, diagnostic and administrative processes to support patient-centered care. The solution is distinguished by three innovative characteristics: it manages processes and best practices across the health enterprise through workflow management tools; increased ease-of-use and faster training is enabled via a smart user interface; and an integrated decision support tool helps to manage and measure the events and activities of the organization through embedded analytics.

Additionally, bringing together images and data seamlessly from a variety of medical modalities in one location, Soarian helps facilitate more informed decision-making --leading to improved care delivery, increased staff satisfaction, and more efficient business practices.
