Decision notice given for Ordnance Survey’s new head office

Ordnance Survey’s plans for a new head office within the Southampton area have taken a huge step forward this week – with confirmation of a ‘decision notice’ from Test Valley Borough Council.

The notice indicates the successful completion of the ‘S106’ planning agreement for the development at Adanac Park – alongside the M271 gateway to the city.

“This news is very encouraging. Our vision of a new corporate head office is now very close to becoming a reality,” says Ordnance Survey Director, Jan Hutchinson.

“We are very excited about the prospect of beginning the build-phase of this important project. There is still a lot of work to do. We must meet the necessary conditions attached to the planning consent. But I am confident that everything is well on track to make a smooth transition to our new home.”

Before work can begin in earnest at the site, there must be a judicial review period. This has started and runs until 16 September 2008. Once the period is complete, developers Kier can begin the build stage of the project. If all goes to plan, staff at Ordnance Survey will make their move in early 2010.
