Nation’s Fourth- Largest City Streamlines Citywide Business Processes to Improve Constituent Services for Citizens

HOUSTON, Texas - December 13, 2005 - SAP Public Services, Inc., a subsidiary of SAP AG (NYSE: SAP), today announced the city of Houston has selected mySAP™ ERP, SAP’s flagship ERP solution, to support HoustonOne, the city’s multimillion dollar modernization project aimed at streamlining citywide business processes. With SAP’s integrated solution set designed for public entities, the city of Houston will make it easier for its more than 23,000 employees to access real-time information, allowing them to deliver constituent services more effectively—creating a more user-friendly and responsive government. Houston joins a growing number of local governments that are choosing SAP® solutions to impact their operational efficiency and responsiveness.

SAP Consulting was selected to assist the city with the implementation, training and rollout of the HoustonOne project, which includes functionality to help the city improve financial management, human resources, payroll, procurement and materials management processes. The new system is designed to streamline business processes and increase information sharing and collaboration across city departments to ultimately improve delivery of services to citizens.

The HoustonOne project aims to standardize the city’s key administrative functions across all departments and strengthen its enterprisewide IT infrastructure by replacing multiple legacy systems that may contain redundant information or slow down service delivery due to integration issues.

“The city of Houston selected SAP to help deploy a proven product widely used by corporations and governments around the world,” said Bill White, mayor, city of Houston. “By replacing the existing systems, we will eliminate a serious risk that our aging systems could fail and force the city into extraordinary efforts to manage our finance functions. The state-of-the-art SAP system will provide important new technical tools for continuing to transform city hall into an efficient and responsive local government. To make this project a success, we have committed some of our best people in the city to work on it.”

The HoustonOne project is exemplary of ERP best practices, with buy-in and commitment secured at all levels of city government. At the mayor’s request, department heads impacted by the HoustonOne rollout chose key leaders from their respective departments to serve on the steering committee. These individuals will approve major project deliverables and provide a critical link between the project team and the departments. In addition, city officials have advocated that all city employees lend their support to the project and make HoustonOne a “total team effort.” SAP Consulting will work side-by-side with the HoustonOne steering committee members, ERP project members and departmental subject matter experts to ensure the project is implemented on time and within budget.

“The city of Houston is well on its way to becoming one of the most progressive e-governments in the country with HoustonOne,” said Steve Peck, president, SAP Public Services, Inc. “We’re very impressed with the executive-level commitment Mayor White and his staff have organized to make this project a success. The combination of our world-class public sector solutions and the successful track record of SAP Consulting will help make the mayor’s vision a reality.”
