Funding supports one of largest U.S. environmental projects of its kind

The PPG Industries Foundation has donated $15,000 to the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO) Educational Foundation for the 2008 River Sweep on June 21.

“The River Sweep is one of the greatest and largest environmental projects of its kind in the United States,” said Jeanne Ison, ORSANCO River Sweep project director. “PPG’s support is very important to this project as it enables volunteers from every sector to come together with industry and government to protect the waters of the Ohio River Valley"

During the event, volunteers will pick up trash from more than 3,000 miles of shoreline of the Ohio River and its tributaries in six states beginning in Pittsburgh. Cleanup site locations and directions are available by state at http://www.orsanco.org/comm/riversweep/coordinator.asp. PPG employees from the Pittsburgh-area and New Martinsville, W.Va., facilities will participate.

"We are happy to support the River Sweep,” said Sue Sloan, executive director, PPG Industries Foundation. “The Ohio River is an important resource not only for PPG and other industries, but also for regional recreation. Participation in the cleanup is an example of PPG’s environmental leadership and commitment to the area.”

The PPG Industries Foundation enhances the quality of life in communities where PPG has a presence. The foundation provides nearly $5 million annually across the United States to charitable organizations and encourages employee volunteerism.
