Tourists Hit by Sickness Bug at Holiday Village Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt

British holidaymakers are reporting a sickness bug and suffering from stomach cramps while staying at the Holiday Village Hotel in Sharm El Sheikh, in Egypt.

Travel law solicitor Andrew Morton at Manchester law firm Pannone LLP, says he is, “surprised and disappointed” to see reports that include people saying “We were all ill with very upset stomachs during our stay. The reps advised it was a bug”, “There were six adults in our party, a 10 year old and a 22 month old baby, everyone of us was ill with stomach cramps”, and “we still have side affects a week after returning to the UK”. One man wrote that “the best thing about the Holiday Village Hotel was the road away from it”.

Complaints about the food include “the eggs were always undercooked, and the cold hams were not ham” and “the food was very, very bad”. The First Choice tour reps were described as “no help at all” and apparently some tour reps said the bug was due to “changes in the temperature”.

Andrew Morton, who specialises in no-win, no-fee compensation claims for ruined holidays said, “This is one of a number of hotels we have received complaints about in the Sharm El Sheikh area in recent months. Guests returning from the Red Sea Holiday Village are also complaining of rude staff, poor service and filthy conditions in the toilets, which were being overused due to the amount of illness in the hotel. We are currently investigating these complaints on behalf of those people who seek to claim compensation for their ruined holiday.”

“Fortunately for British tourists seeking compensation, they have the benefit of powerful consumer legislation in the Package Travel Regulations 1992. These regulations entitle them to claim for compensation against the tour operator in the UK, under UK law.”

Andrew Morton concluded, “I strongly recommend that anyone affected by illness at this hotel seeks medical help when they return to the UK and unless they receive a satisfactory response to complaints from the tour operator, they should also consider seeking compensation.”
