Gatehouse College Campus Offers Transitional Living for College Students Recovering from Drug and Alcohol Addiction
Gatehouse Academy offers second and third phase programs for those with six months of sobriety that are ready to transition into college. This is a co-ed residential program that provides a safety net, mentoring and stability.
Wickenburg, Arizona (Webwire) June 10,2008— Gatehouse Academy, the industry’s leading long-term drug rehab center, offers second and third phase transitional programs for those that are recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. This co-ed residential college campus program is for young men and women over 18 years of age that have been sober for a minimum of 6 months. The recovering men and women transition from drug and alcohol treatment into this program that teaches them to be self-sufficient and self-managed through college and re-entry of society.
The Gatehouse College Campus system is a 12 Step based program that teaches recovering addicts how to transition from drug and alcohol treatment programs into life outside of rehab. Gatehouse College Campus works through coaching and mentoring. The residents go to college but keep sobriety as their first priority. GCC residents are successful through support and accountability.
“The key benefit of the college campus program is that while the students transition into ‘life’ they do this within the safety net of the Gatehouse model with its familiarity and built-in supports,” stated Jacqueline Arcand, the Director of Marketing for Gatehouse Academy. Teaching those that are recovering from addictions to maintain sobriety when they are in environments that can be threatening to them, such as a college setting, the students have a much greater chance of success in their recovery process.
Arcand also said, “The longer one practices and embraces new behaviors, beliefs and thoughts, the greater the likelihood that these healthy ways are being integrated and maintained.”
Therefore, the longer the addiction treatment, the greater the success rate.
A typical day includes household responsibilities, attendance of college, part-time work and/or volunteering, studies, accountability check-in with house leader, meeting with a mentor, a 12 Step meeting and sober fun!
One major reason why this program is offered is based on Gatehouse College Campus’ philosophy that their students gain esteem by doing esteemable things. If students have a chance to go to school, work, and volunteer all while maintaining sobriety in a safe environment, they are much more likely to succeed.
Gatehouse College Campus offers immediate relapse treatment through its sister program at Gatehouse Academy.
