Cross-Country Tour to Offer Free Skin Cancer Screenings and Education about Skin Cancer Prevention

Skillman, NJ . — AVEENO®, the leader in ACTIVE NATURALS®, announces their sponsorship and the official kick-off of The Skin Cancer Foundation’s “Road to Healthy Skin Tour.” The tour will offer free full body skin cancer screenings, conducted by local board-certified dermatologists, in a private room inside a 38-foot customized RV. The tour kicked off on May 2nd in New York City’s Union Square, and will visit more than 50 cities at 100 different locations across the country through October 2008.

“Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, diagnosed in a million people annually,” says dermatologist Jeanine Downie, MD. “Skin cancer is also the most preventable and curable form of cancer if it is detected early. The goal of this tour is to educate people nationwide about the importance of getting an annual skin check with their doctor, and get the message out that it is crucial for everyone, no matter their skin color, to start wearing a sunblock with at least an SPF of 15 or higher everyday, all year long.”

According to The Skin Cancer Foundation, skin cancer is among the fastest growing cancers in the US. However, 40 percent of people admit that they never use sunscreen and only 11 percent use an SPF 15 or higher daily. “AVEENO® is committed to educating the public about the dangers of the sun, and the importance of sun safety in helping to prevent skin cancer” says Alissa Hsu Lynch, Group Product Director of AVEENO®. “By sponsoring this tour, we are confident we can help make a difference in growing awareness and prevention, so people can safely enjoy a healthy outdoor lifestyle.

At each tour stop, consumers will be invited to visit the RV and receive a quick, easy and potentially life-saving full body skin cancer screenings by local board-certified dermatologists. Informational material will be provided so that people can learn how to perform monthly skin checks at-home, and how to properly protect themselves from the sun on a daily basis. AVEENO® will also be distributing the newest sunblock, AVEENO® CONTINUOUS PROTECTION™ Sunblock SPF 70, featuring the breakthrough sun protection technology complex, ACTIVE PHOTOBARRIER COMPLEX™. Specifically created to deliver optimal, broad and photostable UVA/UVB protection over time with proper use, ACTIVE PHOTOBARIER COMPLEX™ is a preventative step everyone can take in protecting skin from the sun’s harmful rays.
