IBM Unveils InfoSphere Change Data Capture Software to Help Clients Make Timely Business Decisions via Real-Time Data Analysis

Technology From DataMirror Acquisition Boosts Information on Demand Portfolio



ARMONK, NY .-IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced InfoSphere Change Data Capture, new software that allows organizations to react faster to changing business conditions, improve response time and access the most current information for decision-making.

Having up-to-the-minute information has never been more critical. Retailers need it to stock store shelves and satisfy shoppers, manufacturers need it to maintain supplies, and financial services organizations need an immediate view of the market and their clients. This requires a real-time view of what information has been changed and updated in order to make timelier decisions about customers, inventory and transactions.

InfoSphere Change Data Capture software, derived from the company’s acquisition of DataMirror in 2007, recognizes when data, such as a customer address or product code, has changed and then immediately transmits that change to the systems that rely upon the data. This helps bring real-time data analysis closer to actual business processes, and supports operational reporting, business intelligence, and synchronization of applications, allowing organizations to be more competitive and generate more value from their information.

Today’s announcement supports IBM’s cross-company Information on Demand business initiative, aimed at capturing the growing market opportunity for enabling customers to use information as a strategic business asset. At the core of Information on Demand is IBM’s services and consulting expertise, combined with software that accelerates the delivery of trusted information to improve the way organizations do business.

Retailers can use the technology to provide customers the most up-to-date pricing information. Manufacturers can use it to provide real-time inventory levels to ensure maximum efficiency. It can also be used to consolidate customer data in real-time across multiple regions, departments and business units to help organizations more effectively react to customer demands and make better, more accurate decisions.

InfoSphere Change Data Capture enables high volume, two-way replication of massive amounts of data while maintaining the integrity and performance of the source applications. This ensures critical systems are always available and provides users access to the most accurate information from every system. It does this by accessing and integrating data in applications or production systems at all times, lightening the load on batch windows.

When used in combination with IBM Information Server to help analyze and cleanse the data, it helps detect and respond to relevant business changes to deliver timely trusted data for better business decisions. It is also widely used for scalable, high performance heterogeneous data movement among databases such as IBM DB2, SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, Teradata and Informix. IBM clients often use the software for high-performance, bidirectional integration in Oracle and DB2 environments that can scale to replicate massive volumes of data and information-intensive projects such as loading real-time information into IBM System z servers.
