Kenworth T660s Deliver Excellent Fuel Economy, Driver Comfort for Liquid Feed Supplier

DODGEVILLE, Wis.– Quality Liquid Feed (QLF) has provided supplemental liquid feed for livestock all across the United States since 1977. To help support the company’s far-flung operations, QLF Transportation was formed in 1999. Starting with just 12 trucks, the fleet has since grown to more than 75 trucks, mostly Kenworths.

In the spring of 2007, QLF Transportation became an early adopter of the Kenworth T660 and purchased 16 new trucks. Since then, the T660 has proven itself to QLF drivers and management for its exceptional reliability, comfort and fuel efficiency. This year, the company has ordered 15 more T660s.

“In our business, uptime is absolutely critical,” said Stuart Sliter, vice president of QLF Transportation in Dodgeville Wis. “We maximize every driver, every truck, every minute of every day. If we hiccup, it puts a real wrinkle in our dispatch. The T660 has been a reliable working truck for us.”

For QLF drivers who spend much of their time on unpaved roads, in all kinds of weather, the performance and comfort of the Kenworth T660 makes a big difference in productivity and job satisfaction.

“The Kenworth T660 holds the road, drives smoothly, has great torque, visibility, handling, all those things,” Sliter said. “It’s just a good working truck, and it rides like a dream. Drivers really like the T660.”

Interior comfort is especially important to QLF drivers. “In other trucks we’ve owned, stuff inside the cab cracks and breaks, rattles and squeaks,” Sliter said. “That doesn’t happen in the Kenworths. The seats and doors are all cushioned and stitched, and the doors shut tightly. It’s really a nice, quiet, smooth ride.”

Along with exceptional fit and finish, QLF’s Kenworth T660s are spec’d with 62-inch AeroCab® FlatTop sleepers and Diamond Interiors.

Productivity is enhanced even further with the Kenworth Driver Information Center, which helps Sliter separate idle time, PTO (power take-off) running time and driving time. “Because we use PTOs to operate the liquid feed pumps, now we can determine exactly how much fuel our PTOs are using.” With a clearer picture of all-round fuel usage, Sliter said, “we’re getting up to 7.2 mpg in our T660s.”

Better fuel mileage is what attracted Sliter to the Kenworth T660 in the first place. “The aerodynamics really impress me,” he said. To improve fuel efficiency even more, he spec’d the T660s with 430-hp engines, 13-speed transmissions and lightweight components such as composite springs, underneath mufflers and 100-gallon fuel tanks.

With 10 QLF plants located in 10 different states, the company’s fleet is dispersed. Drivers live in the regions they serve, so maintenance is handled through Kenworth PremierCare® and the nationwide network of Kenworth dealers. “We get really good service,” said Sliter, who purchases his trucks from Wisconsin Kenworth in Madison. “Kenworth views our business as a true partnership. Plus, we trade our trucks at 500,000 miles and get top resale. The Kenworths keep their value.”
