Harbor Oaks Boarding School Students Move Into New Homes

WEBWIRE

MARS HILL, NC -- Harbor Oaks Boarding School, an emotional growth school for at-risk teens, is pleased to announce the movement of all its students into brand new lodging. The homes for the boys’ and girls’ programs are situated in a secure and scenic area of western North Carolina, providing a distraction-free environment conducive for learning and personal growth.

“We’re excited about the new homes,” says Dr. Patricia Jones, director and co-founder of Harbor Oaks Boarding School.

“They provide a warm and welcoming environment for our students, many of whom are going through difficult times in their lives,” she adds.

The boys’ homes are custom two- and three-story log cabins and beam houses, located on a 12-acre tract of land surrounded by trails, streams and ponds stocked with fish. Due to the location, students can take advantage of unique recreational opportunities such as hiking and fishing.

The lodging for the girls accommodates six to eight people each, not including the houseparents. Beautiful creeks flow through the property, with one of the homes overlooking nearby ski slopes. The vicinity of the resort enables students to ski in the winter months, picking up physical education credits in the process.

Outdoor decks surround the homes and allow students to take in the sun from the privacy of their own open verandas.

“We’re committed to providing all the necessary resources to ensure students succeed at Harbor Oaks,” says Jones. “Our housing plays a key role in that because a pleasant living environment helps boost morale, which has a positive ripple effect on everything they do.”

Harbor Oaks Boardng School is a private, faith-based school that offers programs for young men and women, ages 13 to 17, with a history of emotional difficulties, poor academic performance, difficult family relationships and behavior problems.

The school is accredited by the National Association of Private Schools and implements a self-paced program for students, with the goal of reunification with their families.

Several more homes are still under construction, with four scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2008.
