Pilots and Cabin Crew Called to Action to ’Whistleblow for Safety’ on Sick Aircraft Syndrome

WEBWIRE

HolidayTravelWatch has been contacted by holidaymakers since 2006, complaining of the ill effects of being exposed to a smoke or fume event on board commercial aircraft.

Many complain of a wide range of illnesses ranging from skin complaints to neurological deficits.

HolidayTravelWatch is aware that aircrew sometimes experience the same event as those highlighted by holidaymakers.

The Organisation calls upon pilots and cabin crew to either ’Whistleblow for Safety’ on smoke or fume events, or if they prefer, to provide that information directly to HolidayTravelWatch. We will then present such information to the Safety Regulation Group of the CAA and Government, whilst protecting their desire for anonymity.

Pilots and Cabin Crew are also called to sign the HolidayTravelWatch petition known as the ’Brown Bag Campaign’.

Frank Brehany, the MD and Senior Consumer Advocate for HolidayTravelWatch states:

“I have met a number of pilots who have been forced to retire as a result of their repeated exposure to fumes and subsequent illness. I have found them to be highly honourable and professional. Their experiences are quite literally chilling. I call on all serving pilots and cabin crew to either use our ’Whistleblow for Safety’ campaign to report safety deficits in this arena, or, recognising that they are concerned for their ’employment’ prospects, to make their report to us at HolidayTravelWatch. We will then add our voice to that of the travel consumer, whilst protecting their desire for privacy. We make this call to ensure that the voices of those who passionately care for their industry, are heard by the governments and the very authorities who are charged with their personal safety, and the safety of airline passengers”

All holidaymakers, pilots or cabin crew affected by any of these issues should call the National Helpline 08450179229 or make Contact through the Organisation’s website - www.holidaytravelwatch.com
