December 05, 2005, Time Warner Cable today announced its Digital Phone service has surpassed the one million customer mark. Time Warner Cable is presently signing up thousands of new Digital Phone customers each week with 75% of them subscribing to the Company’s triple-play package which also includes digital cable and high speed data service.

“This achievement was made possible through the dedication of all 33,650 Time Warner Cable employees. Our engineers, installers, customer service reps, and operations executives are responsible for our successful entry into the phone business,” said Landel Hobbs, Time Warner Cable Chief Operating Officer. “And this is just the beginning. With the recent launch of Caller ID on TV, Time Warner Cable customers are already seeing that adding Digital Phone to their cable and high speed data bundle offers more than just a competitive price.”

Time Warner Cable was one of the first cable operators to explore telephony, beginning with tests of circuit-switched technology in Rochester, NY in 1993. After limited technical trials of IP-based phone service, Digital Phone was officially launched in May 2003 to customers in Portland, ME. By the end of 2004, the Company had successfully rolled out Digital Phone to all of its divisions, across 27 states. Having achieved its unprecedented goal of fully deploying phone service within 18 months, Time Warner Cable has turned its focus to rapidly signing up new phone customers.

Reliability and safety are two driving principles of Time Warner Cable’s Digital Phone service. Since its launch, Digital Phone has delivered Enhanced 9-1-1 emergency service to all of its customers automatically and at no additional charge. Time Warner Cable is a member of the National Emergency Number Association’s (NENA) E9-1-1 Next Generation Partnership Program and is committed to supporting the Emergency Number Professional (ENP) Leadership program. One recent example of this commitment is Time Warner Cable’s donation of $15,000 to the ENP Leadership program – the amount NENA cited as necessary to help it reach current certification goals.

Time Warner Cable Digital Phone service allows customers to make unlimited local, in-state and long distance calls in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico for one simple price as low as $39.95 per month. Digital Phone service also includes many popular calling features, like Caller ID, Call Waiting and Call Forwarding at no additional charge. The Company has recently launched Caller ID on TV, which integrates phone and television by allowing customers of both Digital Phone and Time Warner Digital Cable to view caller ID information on their television screen.
