114 Schools, 29 Countries in Competition for 2008 Student Academy Awards®

Beverly Hills, CA – Students representing 114 U.S. colleges and universities are competing in the 2008 Student Academy Awards. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the competition, which will culminate in the presentation of trophies and prize money on Saturday, June 7, at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater. In addition, film students in 29 other countries are vying for the Honorary Foreign Film award; the pool includes the first-ever entry from Cuba.

The Academy established the Student Academy Awards in 1972 to support and encourage excellence in filmmaking at the collegiate level. Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal awards may be presented in each of four categories: Animation, Narrative, Documentary and Alternative. Additionally, one film is selected each year to receive the Honorary Foreign Film award.

The 35th Annual Student Academy Awards will be presented on June 7, 2008 at the Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theater. The ceremony is free and open to the public.
