Rockwell Collins to provide optics assemblies for Northrop Grumman’s Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures system

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa.- Northrop Grumman has selected Rockwell Collins to provide the critical optical assemblies for the Miniature Pointer Tracker (MPT) used in its Large Aircraft Infrared Countermeasures (LAIRCM) system.

This MPT can defend a wide range of aircraft from an infrared missile attack by automatically detecting a missile launch, determining if it is a threat, and activating a high-intensity system of pulsed lasers to track and defeat the threat by confusing its guidance head.

“We are proud to have been selected for this program, which provides key capabilities that protect the warfighter against the growing threat of surface-to-air missiles,” said Bruce King, vice president and general manager of Surface Solutions for Rockwell Collins.

This Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract is valued at up to $66 million from 2008 through 2010.
