GeoAnalytics Retained By Mecklenburg County And The City Of Charlotte, North Carolina To Build An Environmental Data Management System (EDMS)

December 02, 2005, MADISON, WI--GeoAnalytics, Inc., a leading provider of geographic and land information systems (GIS/LIS) technology and management consulting, and a team of subcontractors have been retained by Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte, North Carolina, to build an Environmental Data Management System (EDMS). The EDMS will assist both organizations in monitoring their land and water resources as well as managing land use and water quality regulatory compliance through a GIS-based work management system leveraging cutting edge business solutions, data integration, GIS and mobile computing technologies.

GeoAnalytics and its team (Varion Systems, a division of GeoAnalytics, SAS, Azteca Systems, Tadpole Cartesia, and Arcadis) are currently building a pilot project for the first phase of the two phased project. Phase one involves implementing a small scale version of what will become a fully operational system in phase two. Upon phase one acceptance, phase two will move forward with a fully operational enterprise solution for work order and service request management utilizing GIS to visualize activities. “This is a wonderful opportunity for both organizations,” said Paul Braun, GeoAnalytics’Vice-President. “The EDMS will give them a fully integrated system to help the City and County jointly manage the area’s valuable resources.”

The EDMS will integrate multiple business systems including environmental monitoring lab results data, permits, property control data and spatial information managed by both constituencies. The EDMS will afford staff the ability to log and track the work done to monitor and maintain their land and water resources, retrieve extensive data on their infrastructure, work completed and environmental samples as well as involve the public in providing feedback as to abuses of the infrastructure.

Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services Agency is responsible for maintaining healthy surface water, ground water and solid waste solutions for the County. Charlotte Storm Water Services is responsible for maintaining healthy surface water in the City of Charlotte and Charlotte’s extra-territorial-jurisdiction (ETJ). Additionally, the County and City are responsible for National Pollution Discharge Elimination System compliance and permitting across the county.
