Mexican Cities Lead the Way for Digital Communities in Latin America with Motorola’s Wireless Broadband Solutions

Motorola’s MOTOMESH Duo™ and Canopy® solutions enable access to the Internet,high speed data and video surveillance in Veracruz and Boca del Rio

Veracruz, México.– Motorola, Inc (NYSE: MOT) today announced that the cities of Veracruz and Boca del Rio have selected MOTOMESH Duo, a two radio meshed WiFi network and their Canopy backhaul solution to provide wireless broadband access to approximately 80% of its residents and tourists. The network will enable free wireless Internet connectivity providing the community with increased access to government and private services supporting further urban development.

The new network will enhance communications in Veracruz, a port city with over 1 million residents and in Boca del Rio, both extending over the Gulf of Mexico, along the country’s coastline. The citywide network will provide wireless broadband access to residential and corporate users, as well as municipal and government agencies.

The MOTOMESH network is expected to be fully deployed by the end of this year, covering large parts of the cities and providing all citizens with free access to the Internet. The initiative was led by the governor of the state of Veracruz, Fidel Herrera Beltrán, who supported the execution of an agreement between Intra Networks, an Internet service provider, the Federal government and the National State.

The network will be deployed in three stages. Once the network has been fully installed, Intra Network will provide free wireless broadband access as well as video surveillance services for residential users, companies, universities, hospitals and the city hall.

The network deployment will begin on April 3, marking the first milestone in a series of wireless broadband metropolitan solutions to be implemented by Motorola in Mexican cities.
