Farmers D.I.G. LOCAL Foodways Expo

Bowling Green, Ohio (Sunday April 6, 2008)- Dedicated. Independent. Growers. (D.I.G.) Local represented regional farmers at the Foodways Expo featuring Chris Smith, The Diabetic Chef.

“D.I.G. LOCAL’s goal is simple,” states co-founder Kurt Bench, a fourth generation farmer in Elmore Ohio.

“We want people to buy more food directly from their local farmer.We represent small business owners who happen to produce food, usually within 30 minutes of someone’s kitchen table.More farmers are taking their products to market in a variety of ways. We’ve recently begun to work with Community Supported Agriculture (CSA’s) here in Northwest Ohio.”

Consumer’s were able to learn more about Community Supported Agriculture (CSA’s) and meet farmers in the region who offered subscriptions. The weekly cost of a subscription is typically equal to the amount a family would spend on produce at a grocery store.

Dedicated. Independent. Growers. Local (D.I.G. Local) is a grassroots organization dedicated to getting more people to buy food from farmers. Farm members share in the marketing and public relations efforts to increase consumer awareness of their products.
