Wireless VoIP and Data Services Attract Over 300,000 subscribers in Nine Months
SEOUL – After just nine months on the market, LG Dacom has attracted more than 300,000 subscribers - and is signing up an additional 5000 subscribers per day - for myLG070, its next-generation fixed and mobile communications service built using VoIP solutions from LG-Nortel, a joint venture of LG Electronics and Nortel* [NYSE/TSX: NT].

The second-largest telecommunications provider in Korea, LG Dacom offers a comprehensive range of telephone and Internet services. It has been a rapid adopter of VoIP and other SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) applications, leveraging its advanced network to deliver innovative services that make it easier for people to reach each other using voice, video, instant messaging, presence and other methods.

MyLG070 uses a SIP-based WiFi handset to give subscribers access to a full range of telephony services from anywhere they’re able to get online. The service is enabled by LG-Nortel’s carrier-grade CS 2000 IP multimedia softswitch, which provides robust call connection using SIP and supports next-generation IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) technology to simplify seamless delivery of innovative IP-based services to any device via wired or wireless connections.

“The flexibility of our myLG070 service has proven incredibly popular with customers who want a phone service that does more for them,” said Hyo-Gwan Kang, leader of Network Planning Team of LG Dacom. “LG-Nortel’s SIP-based solution has allowed us to deliver a robust wireless communications experience that paves the way for fixed-mobile convergence, while minimizing the complexity for us to manage that experience. This lets us focus on delivering innovative products while our scalable, reliable LG-Nortel solution keeps myLG070 running - and growing - as smoothly as possible.”

“The popularity of myLG070 confirms that customers are already benefiting from Hyperconnectivity, the new era of communications in which anything that can be connected to a network, is connected,” said Dong-Woo Lee, leader of Multi Packet Solution Sales Department of LG-Nortel. “LG-Nortel’s SIP and IMS-ready solutions will help LG Dacom tap into customers’ growing demand for anywhere, anytime communication, allowing delivery of a consistent experience to customers’ PDAs, PCs, mobile phones, TVs or other devices via fixed and wireless networks.”

LG Dacom built the myLG070 service on the LG-Nortel Communication Server 2000, an IMS-ready, carrier-grade IP multimedia softswitch that offers a wide range of voice and multimedia features and an open, standards-compliant design for rapid integration of multiple communications services. LG Dacom also benefited from Nortel’s end-to-end Global Services portfolio including change design, engineering, installation, commissioning, network integration and marketing support.

Nortel’s IMS-ready solutions have been adopted by over 100 customers, including carriers operating across wireline, wireless and cable domains. Nortel is providing VoIP and multimedia solutions to many of the world’s leading service providers, including Bell Canada, Rogers Communications, SaskTel, Telus, Verizon, Embarq, Verizon Business, British Telecom, Cable & Wireless and Neuf Cegetel. According to Dell’Oro Group, Nortel is the worldwide leader in Carrier VoIP and has maintained that position for the last six years (2002-2007). Nortel has deployed over five million SIP lines with more than 150 operators globally and has shipped more than 73 million carrier VoIP ports. For more information, visit www.lg-nortel.com.
