• More than 15,000 Argentine doctors will participate in this pioneering electronic voting process
• The electronic voting technology used will guarantee the highest levels of security

Barcelona, 30 November 2005. The Spanish company Scytl and Hewlett Packard will carry out the first binding election ever held via the Internet in Latin America, in collaboration with Argentina’s Federal Council of Investments, Telefónica of Argentina and Datastar (an HP and Scytl distributor). Through this election, which will take place in the province of Mendoza, representatives will be chosen for the State Medical Councils and Representatives of each medical specialty. The event will be organized by the State Unit of Reform and Modernization, which reports to the Technical, Legal and Administrative Office of the Department of Health of Mendoza Province.

In this electoral process, over 15,000 doctors will have the chance to vote from more than 35 polling stations that have been equipped with computers connected to the Internet specifically for this election.

Multiple elections will be held simultaneously throughout the day. Each of the 14 medical specialties will elect their own representatives among more than 6,000 candidates. The election of the State Medical Councils will be organized by region, but not all of the specialties will divide the regions in the same way. Therefore, some professionals will vote in both elections.

Scytl and HP are the companies selected to provide the technology that will guarantee the highest standards of security to meet the requirements of the State Unit of Reform and the Provincial Department of Health. The advantages of Scytl technology include fast vote counting, the most reliable system in the market, trustworthy results, a user-friendly interface and low costs, since standard HP hardware is used as voting terminals.
