Duke Energy Reminds Customers Moratorium on Gas and Electric Disconnections Ends March 18

WEBWIRE

CINCINNATI - The company has sent letters to more than 35,000 residential customers who qualified for the temporary halt in the disconnection of gas and electric service. The moratorium applies only to residential customers whose household income is at or below 175 percent of the federal poverty guidelines.

Customers are encouraged to take proactive action prior to the end of the moratorium to ensure that their service is not disconnected. The winter disconnection moratorium does not forgive payment of utility bills. Participating customers are still responsible for payment of any amounts owed related to natural gas and/or electric service, including late fees. Customers who have made partial payment during the moratorium may qualify for extended payment arrangements.

If customers anticipate having an outstanding balance related to gas and/or electric service at the end of the moratorium and cannot pay the full amount, they are urged to contact Duke Energy Ohio at 1-800-648-7777 as soon as possible to discuss any payment arrangements for which they may qualify.

Duke Energy’s Ohio operations deliver safe, reliable and competitively priced electricity to more than 680,000 electric customers and natural gas service to approximately 420,000 customers.

Duke Energy, one of the largest electric power companies in the United States, supplies and delivers energy to approximately 4 million U.S. customers. The company has approximately 36,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity in the Midwest and the Carolinas, and natural gas distribution services in Ohio and Kentucky. In addition, Duke Energy has more than 4,000 megawatts of electric generation in Latin America, and is a joint-venture partner in a U.S. real estate company.

Headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Duke Energy is a Fortune 500 company traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol DUK.
