Star Alliance upgrades the Round the World Mileage Calculator

WEBWIRE

Star Alliance, the way the Earth connects, has upgraded the 2006 online version of its highly popular ‘Round the World Mileage Calculator’ (RTW MC). For planning their trips customers now enjoy the following additional features: Dynamic Mapping, Seven-Day Look-Up, Historical Weather Look-Up and the Airport Finder. Together with the Circle Fare and Airpass Calculator that already have these features the RTW MC can be found at http://www.staralliance.com/fareproductcalculators.

With Dynamic Mapping all Star Alliance destinations are displayed on a digital world map; zooming in and out is possible to highlight preferred countries or regions. The Seven-Day Look Up offers all available connections for a week for a requested itinerary. Picking the right time to travel is accomplished with the Historical Weather Look-Up that provides the average monthly weather over the past ten years for any chosen destination. Finally, the Airport Finder informs the customer which airport flown to by a Star Alliance member is nearest to the preferred final destination.

“With these new features and 19 airlines, 160 countries and 897 airports to choose from our unique ‘Round the World Mileage Calculator’ allows even more flexibility and careful planning for a world of itinerary options, which fit into a customer’s plans rather than the other way around,” said Horst Findeisen, Vice President, Business Development at Star Alliance. “We now have the Fare Calculators for the Circle Fares, Airpasses and the Round the World fare on one web page which gives customers a wide variety of choices at their fingertips to plan routings at their convenience: 24 hours a day, 365 days a year in an easy and simple manner.”

The RTW MC, online since October 2006, puts the customer in control of the route planning process together with member carriers’ latest schedules that include more than 17,000 flights daily. A travel distance up to 39,000 miles is possible with as many as 15 stopovers. This offers customers an extensive range of possibilities to build an itinerary. Once a final itinerary is planned, it can be printed out and taken to a travel agent or transmitted to a Star Alliance member carrier of choice for availability check, calculation of the gross fare, reservation and ticketing.
