NTTPC Communications selects Alcatel to deliver Japan’s first VPLS-based Ethernet service

WEBWIRE

Paris, November 21, 2005 - Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) announced today that it has successfully deployed a Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS) solution for NTTPC Communications, Inc., a leading network service and integration provider to enterprises in Japan. This solution enables NTTPC to become the first company in Japan to deliver VPLS-based wide area Ethernet services to enterprises nationwide.

Upon the successful completion of an extensive range of tests, NTTPC deployed the Alcatel solution across its Network Operations Centers to further enhance the scalability and reliability of its “Broadband Ether” wide area Ethernet service to meet the growing mission-critical communication requirements of its enterprise customers.

“The performance of the Alcatel solution enables us to provide the robustness and scalability required in our backbone network to cope with the fast growing demand,” said Motoo Tanaka, director, Network Planning & Operation department at NTTPC. “The use of a proven and standardized technology such as VPLS was also an important criterion for us in choosing Alcatel.”

“The implementation of VPLS based on our 7450 Ethernet Service Switch gives NTTPC a clear advantage in the competitive Ethernet service market in Japan,” said Basil Alwan, president of Alcatel’s IP activities. “The strong QoS and service level agreement (SLAs) capabilities of solution enables NTTPC to maintain its competitive edge in delivering high quality Ethernet services in the near term and well into the future.”

Alcatel’s Metro Ethernet solution addresses service provider issues by making it possible to offer scalable, reliable and predictable services over Ethernet. The Alcatel 7450 ESS brings together the bandwidth and operational cost benefits of Ethernet with the stability and scalability of MPLS. As a result, service providers such as NTTPC can ensure exceptional service stability while growing their subscriber base. Lastly, proactive and fully automated network and service management maximizes the reliability of the network.
