PA Business website set to revolutionise Parliamentary monitoring

A groundbreaking website that revolutionises the way Parliament is monitored has been launched by PA Business.

Politics Today, at www.politicstoday.press.net, combines live and archived TV coverage of the Houses of Parliament with up-to-the-minute political news from The Press Association.

Using subtitles and the latest speech-to-text technology, footage from the BBC Parliament channel is converted into searchable text with a direct link to a corresponding video clip.

Subscribers can search through hours of Parliamentary business using keywords and phrases or download subtitles while viewing BBC Parliament in real time.

Results are returned via links to five-minute video clips, complete with audio and, where available, subtitles. The latest agenda-setting political news from The Press Association wire service can also be searched and viewed.

Subscribers can set up alerts that will deliver emails the moment a chosen search term or phrase is broadcast or appears on The Press Association’s political service.

Ian Campbell, Managing Director of PA Business, which provides information products and services to corporates and the public sector, described the subscription-only website as a powerful real-time political monitoring tool that will be hugely valuable to communication departments.

“Customers will be able to see, hear and read what was said in Parliament within a couple of minutes of it actually happening. This is a major advance on what is currently available in the market,” he said.

Politics Today has been developed by PA Business, part of the PA Group, in partnership with TVEyes, the real-time broadcast search provider. Video content from the BBC Parliament channel is provided under license from the BBC with the consent of the Parliamentary Broadcasting Unit Ltd.

Chris Mellor, Senior Vice President of TVEyes, said the company was the first to deliver real-time TV and radio searches across multiple languages on an international platform.

“We are delighted to be working in the UK with PA Business to create a comprehensive service of value to all those involved in the politics of the day,” he added.
