WEBWIRE

Milpitas, Calif.– JDSU today announced that it has joined the Nortel (NYSE/TSX: NT)-led Carrier Ethernet Ecosystem, a group of companies dedicated to developing new, Ethernet-based approaches to meeting the burgeoning bandwidth demands from the increasing popularity of HD video, social media and advanced business services. The Carrier Ethernet Ecosystem is designed to provide service providers with the ability to create and extend Carrier Ethernet at a fraction of previous costs.

“The value proposition of carrier Ethernet is its simplicity and favorable economics. The focus of the Carrier Ethernet Ecosystem is to make these solutions – which benefit from each partner’s unique expertise – integrated, interoperable and ready for deployment. Working with an experienced innovator like JDSU expands the capabilities of the Ecosystem and ultimately helps to promote the use of Carrier Ethernet technologies like PBB and PBT,” said Mike Adams, vice president of strategy and architecture, Metro Ethernet Networks, Nortel. “Their addition will add breadth and depth to the Ecosystem community as we strive to achieve practical interoperability among our growing set of solutions.”

JDSU’s Metro Ethernet test and measurement portfolio, the most comprehensive in the industry, includes the full range of Ethernet test instruments, systems and software, enabling analysis of all seven layers of Metro Ethernet services. Elements of JDSU’s Metro Ethernet portfolio are deployed worldwide by most Tier-1 service providers, including telecommunications, cable and wireless network operators. The JDSU portfolio of broadband-enabling test solutions includes JDSU’s T-BERD/MTS-8000, TestPoint, NetComplete for Metro Ethernet (including the QT-600), HST-3000, DA-3400/3600, SmartClass Ethernet, FST-2802, and ONT product lines.

“JDSU is recognized as a best-in-class test and measurement vendor for carrier-grade Metro Ethernet,” said Tom Waechter, president of JDSU’s Communications Test & Measurement business segment. “We offer the industry’s most comprehensive test portfolio for high-performance Metro Ethernet networks, which are emerging as key elements in the delivery of next-generation business and consumer services.”
