SkyMiles can be purchased at delta.com/buymiles and given as gifts to others or yourself

ATLANTA, Nov. 21, 2005 – Delta Air Lines is offering shoppers a festive gift idea more appealing than another necktie or holiday sweater: the gift of travel. Through Delta’s SkyMiles® program, individuals can purchase miles for friends, family, employees, customers or even themselves at delta.com/buymiles.

“Your cousin, your colleague, or anyone on your holiday gift list, can use gift miles to top off an account for their next Award Ticket or to keep existing miles from expiring,” said Jeff Robertson, managing director of the SkyMiles program. “Purchasing and giving miles is simple and convenient at delta.com.”

A gift of 500 miles can be purchased for less than $40 and gift of 1,000 miles may be purchased for less than $55. Anyone in the United States or Canada can purchase or receive miles; however, the recipient must enroll in the SkyMiles program before collecting miles. Miles can be purchased in increments of 500 and may be redeemed for Award Travel to more than 400 worldwide destinations on Delta and its partner airlines.

There are three ways to give miles as a gift: a unique e-card, a personalized e-mail or a printable certificate. All three ways include a claim code and instructions on how to claim the miles. Miles can be purchased throughout the year for $0.0275 per mile plus a 7.5 percent Federal Excise Tax and a $25 processing fee per transaction. An additional 7 percent Goods and Services Tax per mile is charged for customers with a billing address in Canada. Multiple gifts may be given with one transaction.

Delta SkyMiles members earn miles by flying Delta, Song, Delta Shuttle, the Delta Connection carriers, Delta AirElite and Delta’s SkyTeam partners. The program offers additional mileage-building opportunities through SkyMiles partners such as the Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express, SkyMilesShopping.com, participating hotels, car rental companies, telecommunication services, restaurants, floral and gift retailers and financial, mortgage and realty services. The SkyMiles program was recently named the Best Frequent Flyer Program by Travel Savvy magazine in a survey that included all global and domestic airline loyalty programs.

Delta Air Lines is the world’s second-largest airline in terms of passengers carried and the leading U.S. carrier across the Atlantic, offering daily flights to 502 destinations in 92 countries on Delta, Song, Delta Shuttle, the Delta Connection carriers and its worldwide partners. Delta’s marketing alliances allow customers to earn and redeem frequent flier miles on more than 14,000 flights offered by SkyTeam and other partners. Delta is a founding member of SkyTeam, a global airline alliance that provides customers with extensive worldwide destinations, flights and services. Customers can check in for flights, print boarding passes and check flight status at delta.com.
