Barcelona, GSMA Mobile World Congress, 11 .– Oberthur Technologies, BridgePort Networks and Iskratel are demonstrating the MobileSTICK™ solution commercially launched under the brand name m:stik by Mobitel, the Slovenia’s largest mobile operator, at 3GSM Mobile World Congress in November 2007.

This innovative fixed-mobile convergence (FMC) solution was jointly developed by Oberthur Technologies, one of the world’s leading smart-card suppliers, and BridgePort Networks, the leader in MobileVoIP convergence. Iskratel, a leading systems integrator and network equipment provider, lead the deployment of this solution for Mobitel. ”We are delighted and honored that Mobitel, a leading operator in introducing new services, chose Iskratel for the implementation of this solution. We are convinced that, together with our partners, we will justify their trust" observed Mr. Mitja Jelnikar, Iskratel’s Sales & Marketing Director at the launching of the new service.

The Mobitel’s service enables mobile subscribers to use voice, text, multimedia, and video, and to receive phone calls on their PC or laptop using their current mobile phone number. This is the world’s first commercial deployment of this class of FMC solution. “With this solution we have virtually spread our mobile network to the entire world. When connected to the internet, the user is part of Mobitel’s network.” said Dr. Mitja Stular, Chief Technology Officer at Mobitel.

The MobileSTICK solution is composed of:

* A USB key based upon Oberthur Technologies’ AngelIC™ including BridgePort Networks’ softphone, flash memory and a SIM card that allows a quick authentication of PC users through the IP network using mobile network security technologies;
* BridgePort Network’s NomadicONE™ Network Convergence Gateway and softphone, which provides end-to-end MobileVoIP applications and solutions aimed at telecommunications service providers;
* As the main integrator of the solution components, Iskratel contributed its Call Server and SMG from the SI3000 product family.

When a customer plugs the handy USB stick into a laptop, the softphone automatically launches and registers on the mobile operator’s network via the internet. Once registered, the end-user keeps its mobile number to make voice, text, multimedia, and video, and to receive phone calls using the operator’s network. Leveraging the MobileSTICK solution, operators are now able to invade the PC Desktop and offer a full suite of mobile and IP-based services that seamlessly works between the mobile and broadband networks. With the MobileSTICK broadband VoIP technology, reception problems are resolved and calls have crystal-clear quality. “The MobileSTICK solution is the first example of how a mobile operator can leverage its network assets to lead the convergence world and offer true value to its customers”, said Arnaud de la Chapelle, Vice-President Europe & Business Director – Oberthur Technologies.

The MobileSTICK solution, plugging simply into the laptop or PC, delivers the cost advantages of VoIP, the convenience of a mobile phone identity and the efficiency of a PC interface.
