HollyWagers.com’s Oscar Betting Guide Lets Fans Cash In

February 12, 2008 -- LAS VEGAS, NV. HollyWagers.com, powered by sport information website Pregame.com, has published their annual Oscar Betting Guide ahead of Hollywood’s biggest night. For the past two years, HollyWagers has compiled odds from various sportsbooks and offered their own unique commentary on who might be winners.

This year’s field has mostly veterans, but a few new faces are in the mix. Paul Thomas Anderson is up for his first Oscar for There Will Be Blood, but the books are in agreement that brothers Joel and Ethan Coen will take directing gold for No Country For Old Men. Javier Bardem is also the favorite to win Best Supporting Actor in the movie based on the Cormac McCarthy novel.

“Over the past decade, there were only four ceremonies that didn’t have winners in both the Best Picture and Best Director categories,” says Pregame president RJ Bell. “The last big surprise was in 2005, when Crash won for Best Picture, which HollyWagers predicted despite 6/1 odds. This year, it’s looking like No Country For Old Men is the film to beat.”

Double nominee Cate Blanchett is up for two awards this year, one for her starring role in Elizabeth: The Golden Age and for Best Supporting Actress in her critically acclaimed turn as Bob Dylan in I’m Not There. Blanchett is the hands-down favorite for the Best Supporting Actress, though far behind Julie Christie in the Best Actress category.

“I like the diversity of the films in this year’s field,” says HollyWagers Content Manager Kari O’Connor. “We have gangsters, lawyers, love stories, tragedies, and some comic turns. I don’t think it will be as completely predictable as people think.”
