BroadSoft Demonstrates Scalability with IBM BladeCenter

Customer Demonstration Shows BroadSoft Solution Manages More Than 20 Million Subscribers, 40 Million Fully Redundant ’Busy Hour Call Attempts’ on IBM BladeCenter HT; Momentum Accelerates With 39% Increase in Customer Adoption

Mobile World Congress, Barcelona, Spain- BroadSoft Inc., a leading provider of VoIP application software, today announced that it successfully completed a demonstration of the scalability of the BroadWorks® Voice over IP (VoIP) application platform with IBM BladeCenter HT. During a recent series of tests at the IBM PSSC Network Transformation Center in Montpellier, France, BroadSoft showed its BroadWorks platform is capable of handling 20 million users and up to 40 million Busy Hour Call Attempts (BHCAs) on the IBM BladeCenter HT.

The Montpellier demonstration was held for multiple Tier 1 telecommunications customers as a proof of concept to demonstrate the scalability and reliability large service providers can expect when choosing the BroadWorks platform on IBM BladeCenter. Telecom companies that rely on BroadWorks on IBM BladeCenter include Ericsson, Cox Communications and T-Systems.

“This demonstration shows that service providers can scale their BroadWorks-based networks to meet subscriber demand,” said Robert Weidenfeller, BroadSoft’s vice president of Engineering. “The demonstrated configuration represents all three BroadWorks application types - Residential, Business Connectivity and Hosted Business - and was performed with real-world call models. Operators can easily scale to over 20 million users by simply adding more IBM BladeCenters.”

The IBM BladeCenter HT, introduced in early 2007, extends the BladeCenter family to meet stringent NEBS3/ETSI requirements for telecommunications carrier grade deployments. The IBM BladeCenter HT delivers superior performance and high-speed connectivity for network bandwidth up to 10 times greater than previously possible, helping telecommunications service providers unleash new, next-generation network services.

“This further validates the ability of the BroadWorks platform to effectively scale on the IBM BladeCenter HT, showing that the combined solution can handle the demands of a high volume of calls within a large-scale system configuration,” said Scott Firth, director of telecommunications industry marketing for IBM Systems and Technology Group. “By teaming up with BroadSoft, we’re able to help our customers manage significantly larger call volumes in a highly cost effective way.”

The successful demonstration reinforces the accelerating customer momentum of telecom service providers adopting the IBM BladeCenter with the BroadWorks platform to quickly deploy and scale new IP-based, converged voice services. In the recent quarter, the number of IBM and BroadSoft joint customers increased 39 percent.

Recent customers deploying the industry-leading BroadWorks solution on the IBM BladeCenter platform include:

* Telovations, Inc., a hosted and managed services provider that offers cost-effective communications solutions that enhance productivity for small and medium-sized businesses. “Growing businesses in the Southeast region of the United States depend on our managed communications solutions,” said Doug Knight, vice president of Product Management at Telovations, “and we depend on BroadWorks on BladeCenter.”

* Siminn (formerly Iceland Telecom) is the dominant provider of telecommunications, mobile and Internet services to private and corporate clients in Iceland. “When delivering advanced IP services to enterprises in a growing market, the ability to scale is crucial to our success,” said Erlendur Steinn Guđnason, director of Value Added Systems - ICT for Siminn. “Using BroadWorks on IBM BladeCenter allows us to focus on selling and marketing our services, instead of being concerned about our network’s reliability.”

BroadSoft’s customer community includes global wireline, wireless, and cable operators, as well as regional competitive carriers, wholesalers and ISPs around the world. Many innovative companies use IBM BladeCenter with BroadWorks to address end-users’ critical communications needs, including Cable & Wireless Jamaica, Centennial de Puerto Rico, Sprint, TerreStar and v2tel.
