Matlinpatterson selects Rolls-Royce Trent 700S for first Americas A330 Freighter operation

WEBWIRE

Rolls-Royce today announced that MatlinPatterson Global Advisers LLC, through an affiiliate, has selected the Trent 700 to power a new fleet of six firm Airbus A330 freighters. The Trent 700 is the market leader on the A330 freighter with a 70 per cent share of orders. It is the quietest, cleanest and most fuel-efficient option on the A330 freighter, with the greatest operational capability. The fleet will be leased to certain MatlinPatterson portfolio companies.

The potential value of the contract to Rolls-Royce is over $500 million at list prices. The engines will be supported by Rolls-Royce under a long-term TotalCare® service agreement.

In addition, MatlinPatterson has agreed to terms for a TotalCare contract to support up to 15 RB211-535 powered Boeing 757 aircraft.

Lap Chan, Managing Partner at MatlinPatterson, said: “The Trent 700’s dominant market position, underpinned by clear advantages in reliability and operating cost made this a logical business decision. The evident residual value of the Trent 700, given its market position, made it the natural choice.”

Chris Cyr, Executive Vice President - Americas at Rolls-Royce commented: “We are delighted that MatlinPatterson selected Rolls-Royce to power its first widebody aircraft order. This marks a significant commitment by MatlinPatterson to its relationship with Rolls-Royce and complements its existing fleet of Rolls-Royce powered aircraft. The combination of Trent power and TotalCare aftermarket support represents a sound investment for MatlinPatterson.”

Rolls-Royce is working hard to improve the environmental impact of its products. Each year Rolls-Royce, in collaboration with its partners, invests around £750 million on research and development, two thirds of which has the objective of reducing the environmental impact of its products. This technology investment is primarily aimed at reducing noise and emissions.
2.

TotalCare agreements, tailored for individual operators, offer a range of services extending to aspects of support such as latest predictive maintenance, asset and logistics management, as well as repair and overhaul. TotalCare offers the opportunity to remove uncertainties from engine management and provides airlines and owners with greater financial confidence from managing predictable costs.
