New Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 and services agreements for European and Latin American Airlines

WEBWIRE

Rolls-Royce announced today that Spanish airline Air Europa and Latin American carrier LAN Airlines S.A., have selected high-efficiency, low-emission Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines for new and leased Boeing 787 Dreamliner twinjets. Both airlines have also signed long-term TotalCare® service agreements.

Air Europa has selected Trent 1000s to power its new fleet of eight firm Boeing 787-8s. Including the TotalCare package, the value of the business is around $560 million at list prices.

LAN has chosen the Trent 1000 for six leased Boeing 787-9s from International Lease Finance Corporation (ILFC).

Air Europa is wholly-owned by Grupo Globalia, one of the largest and most successful tourism groups in Spain. Juan José Hidalgo, President of Grupo Globalia, said: “We have developed a strong reputation for Air Europa as a leading modern airline, so we strive to operate the most advanced equipment.

”The Trent 1000 is the next generation of aircraft engine and it offers us the best standard of environmental performance and operating costs, achieved through a comprehensive TotalCare agreement aligning our goals.”

Mark King, President – Civil Aerospace at Rolls-Royce, added: "We are proud to be associated with both of these forward-looking airlines. LAN is one of Latin America’s leading carriers, while Air Europa’s plans for its modern fleet include operating to some of the most difficult, high altitude airports in South America, such as Bogota and Mexico City. The Trent 1000’s superior performance suits these operations, giving a better economic return.”

LAN is leasing the six aircraft in addition to up to 41 new 787s, also fitted with the Trent, which it announced last year.

The lease aircraft are from the previously-announced order in July 2007 from ILFC for Trent 1000s for 40 Boeing 787s. ILFC is the largest single customer for the Rolls-Royce Trent family, with a portfolio of 61 Trent-powered widebody aircraft, and a further 70 on order.

The Trent is the launch engine for all versions of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and will be the first to fly on the aircraft later this year. Fuel burn is 20 per cent lower than previous generation aircraft such as the Boeing 767, which translates into an equivalent reduction in carbon emissions per passenger.

TotalCare, tailored for individual operators, offers a range of services from Rolls-Royce covering all aspects of asset management in support of its civil aerospace products. Building on the company’s knowledge, experience and infrastructure, these services include elements such as predictive maintenance, logistics management and global repair and overhaul offerings.
