Plantation, Fla. -- November 14, 2005, DHL, the world’s leading global express delivery and logistics company, was honored on November 10 by the Urban League of Long Island at the organization’s 33rd Equal Opportunity Day Luncheon held in Woodbury, Long Island. The Urban League bestowed honors on DHL for the support the company provided in shipping relief items to the Gulf Coast region and helping the League in providing assistance to those in need of food, clothing and other essential supplies following Hurricane Katrina. The event was attended by DHL personnel from the Greater New York area.

DHL transported 280 boxes from two New York area cities (Huntington Village and South Setauket) to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. The shipment contained toiletries, new clothing, water and non-perishable foods. “At DHL, we feel that we have an ongoing role to play in reallocating our resources to assist those in critical need,” said Kelly Keogh, director of citizenship, DHL. “Supporting the Urban League in their efforts to help hurricane victims was a worthy cause that demonstrated our continued commitment as an organization that cares about the communities we serve.”

DHL has contributed its services over the past year to several major relief efforts, including those after Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma, and has extensive experience offering its expertise in managing complex transport processes after global natural disasters. Recent efforts have included the DHL deployment of DHL personnel to provide logistics assistance to international relief efforts following hurricane damage and floods in New Orleans and after the tsunami in Southeast Asia. DHL also coordinated relief efforts in October for the trans-shipment of more than 4,500 tons of relief supplies from more than 110 international relief flights following the earthquake in Pakistan and South Asia through the World Economic Forum’s Disaster Resource Network.
