November 14, 2005, Sysmex Corporation (HQ: Kobe, Japan; President: Hisashi Ietsugu) has reached a comprehensive agreement with the Veterans Integrated Service Network (hereinafter referred to as “VISN”) Region 6 (hereinafter referred to as “VISN6”) to provide instruments, reagents and services, and to support test standardization in the hematology field for five years, through Sysmex America, Inc., the U.S. subsidiary of Sysmex Corporation. Under this Agreement, Sysmex’s products are to be supplied to all the nine facilities of VISN6.

In advanced countries in recent years, with the control of growth of medical expenses, improvement of patient services has become required. In the U.S., an organization known as the Integrated Healthcare Network (hereinafter referred to as “IHN”), a grouping of general medical institutions organized into regions, provides medical services with the aim of achieving efficiency in and improving the quality of medical care.
One hundred and sixty-nine facilities of the VeteransAdministrationHospital, a medical institution under the jurisdiction of the Government, form 22 groups across the U.S. These facilities render a wide range of medical services to approximately 70 million veterans and their families. VISN6, one of the Groups, is the VISN covering North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia and South Carolina – the mid-Atlantic states.
Sysmex has engaged in direct product sales and provided direct services to U.S. customers since 2003. The Company is striving to expand its marketing activity not only in large hospitals but also in the small and medium hospital market, as well as leading commercial laboratories. In particular, by utilizing its strengths of system products and network-compatible products under the overall concept of standardization, and by regarding supply of its products to IHN and VISN as its prime objective, Sysmex has strengthened its sales activities.
As a result of these activities, Sysmex concluded a comprehensive agreement with one of the VISN groups, VISN10 in the first half of this fiscal year, and has supplied its products to all the facilities belonging to the group. VISN6 is the third VISN group to have concluded a comprehensive agreement, which can be attributed to Sysmex’s advanced technology and efficiency-enhancing concepts.
This Agreement is a CPT (Cost per Test) agreement, a form of agreement that has recently become widely used the U.S.; under this system, medical institutions pay fees based on the number of tests conducted. These fees include instrument lease and maintenance fees in addition to the costs of reagents consumed.
Sysmex intends to continuously develop and provide original products and solutions to support the resolution of management issues faced by IHN and VISN.
