New Orleans, La. – Entergy Corporation on Wednesday received its 10th straight award from the Edison Electric Institute for restoring power following extreme storms. The latest award recognizes Entergy’s help returning power to 46,000 Public Service of Oklahoma customers after a January 2007 ice storm.

Entergy has received either EEI’s Emergency Storm Response or its Emergency Assistance awards for 10 consecutive years. It is the only company to be honored each year since the awards were created. Entergy has won three Emergency Storm Response Awards for its efforts restoring power to its own customers and eight awards for assisting other utilities repairing their systems.

The award totals include two Entergy received at the 2006 ceremony – one for its 2005 response to hurricanes Katrina and Rita and another award for assisting Florida Power & Light in late October 2005 after Hurricane Wilma hit Florida.

Randy Helmick, Entergy’s storm boss, said, “Receiving awards from EEI for 10 straight years is a great honor. Our service area extends from much of the Gulf Coast northward to the borders of Missouri and Tennessee, putting Entergy in the path of both severe summer and winter storms. Professional storm restoration is critical to our success, and it’s the preparation and dedication of Entergy’s employees in response to emergencies that makes the difference. While we appreciate this recognition, we are simply doing our part in a long-standing tradition of utilities helping people and companies in need.

“Our employees seem to hit a new gear when storms affect Entergy customers or those of our neighboring utilities,” Helmick said. “It’s ingrained in our culture at Entergy and throughout the entire industry -- when someone’s in need, you get in your trucks and head out and do what is needed to get the lights back on as quickly as is safely possible. Entergy is still grateful for the massive assistance we received in response to Katrina and Rita.”

EEI President Thomas R. Kuhn said, “Entergy has developed a strong record of offering assistance to fellow utilities over the past decade, and the company again came to the fore last year during Oklahoma’s January ice storm. Once again their work is a tribute to our industry and its commitment to providing mutual assistance.”

Entergy Corporation is an integrated energy company engaged primarily in electric power production and retail distribution operations. Entergy owns and operates power plants with approximately 30,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity, and it is the second-largest nuclear generator in the United States. Entergy delivers electricity to 2.6 million utility customers in Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas. Entergy has annual revenues of more than $10 billion and approximately 14,500 employees.
