LGS wins subcontract award on General Dynamics SPAWAR contract

WEBWIRE

LGS, a subsidiary of Alcatel-Lucent (NYSE: ALU) dedicated to serving the U.S. government community, announced today it is a key subcontractor for General Dynamics Information Technology, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD).

LGS will work with General Dynamics on a contract that aims to modernize the telephone switch systems for three Naval bases including the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, Fla.; Naval Submarine Base in Kings Bay, Ga. and the Naval Station in Mayport, Fla.

Under the $5.3 million task order, LGS will specifically help upgrade the existing Class 5 switching systems and modernize the voice network.

“We are working closely with General Dynamics and the Navy to modernize and overhaul their existing voice network,” said Ron Iverson, CEO, LGS. “We are able to accomplish this by reusing much of the Navy’s existing core network infrastructure, allowing them to realize significant cost savings.”

The overall contract, awarded to prime General Dynamics in late October from the U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR), is valued at $10 million. Work is expected to be completed in September 2008.

“LGS remains committed to solving the Navy’s communication challenges through our extensive capabilities, products and solutions,” said Mark Wendorf, Navy/USMC Business Development Director. “We have a long history with the Navy and continue to build upon it as they move forward with their next-generation networks.”

The task order was awarded under the Network-Centric Solutions (NETCENTS) indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract. NETCENTS provides the Air Force, Department of Defense (DoD) and other federal agencies a primary source of networking equipment/product supply and a means of system engineering, installation, integration, operations and maintenance for a family of DoD adopted commercially standardized networking solutions that are interoperable with Air Force, Joint and DoD Standardized Networking Technical Architectures.
