Thomson Acquires NexCura

Patient Information and Communications Added to Healthcare Solutions

STAMFORD, Conn., 11/07/2005, The Scientific & Healthcare group of The Thomson Corporation announced the acquisition of NexCura – adding highly targeted patient education and communications to its healthcare information business. Already a provider of authoritative and trusted healthcare information, Thomson says NexCura strengthens its healthcare solutions with critically important tools and channels to help clinicians and others better communicate with patients. Thomson Scientific & Healthcare is a part of The Thomson Corporation (NYSE: TOC; TSX: TOC) – a leader in information solutions for healthcare professionals. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

NexCura delivers timely medical information to targeted groups of patients. Through patented online decision support tools, patients receive personalized medical information relevant to their conditions. This evidence-based information is used by patients and their physicians to make complex treatment decisions and manage acute and chronic conditions, such as cancer and cardiovascular and respiratory diseases.

“If you are a physician, nurse, or any healthcare professional trying to provide the best information and decision-making tools to patients with specific conditions, you have to be excited about the combination of NexCura and Thomson Healthcare – with information sources including Micromedex, Medstat, PDR, and CenterWatch,” says Peter Hoover, NexCura CEO.

“With this acquisition, NexCura will reach more patients and more market segments, and Thomson Healthcare can further enhance the value we bring to customers with these additional offerings,” says Kevin King, president and CEO of Thomson Healthcare.

Thomson indicated the NexCura offerings will expand to cover additional disease conditions and be further tailored to meet the evolving needs of payer and employer clients as the demand for consumer-directed healthcare tools grows. “We expect a seamless transition for customers. This is another example of how we are working across our entire healthcare organization to improve our information solutions and better help patients together with their caregivers make critical decisions faster,” Mr. King added.
