More Than 1.2 Million Books in 20 Languages Now Free To Read Online

EVENT: Join Carnegie Mellon University experts as they tell the story behind the Million Book Digital Library Project. Watch them demonstrate how all kinds of texts from around the world are digitized and placed in the collection. Since 2002, Carnegie Mellon has worked with partners in China, India and Egypt to create an online library to enhance literacy around the world, especially in places where libraries are incomplete or don’t exist. Raj Reddy, professor of computer science and robotics; Michael Shamos, professor of computer science; and Gloriana St. Clair, Carnegie Mellon’s dean of libraries, will discuss this international project, demonstrate how anyone can access the books through a single Web portal and discuss future plans to make all published works freely available.
