Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen to Join National Urban League Board of Trustees

The National Urban League (NUL) announced today that it has established a comprehensive, three-year partnership with Comcast, the nation’s leading provider of cable, entertainment and communications products and services, to increase awareness of and further develop NUL’s various educational programs.

The partnership will be highlighted during NUL’s annual Equal Opportunity Awards Dinner in New York City this evening, at which Comcast will also be inducted into the Urban League’s Five Million Dollar Hall of Fame.

NUL President and CEO Marc H. Morial said the new partnership “represents an exciting and valuable opportunity for the league and Comcast to help thousands of African Americans seize control of their economic destiny through better education.”

“I am honored to be joining the National Urban League’s Board of Trustees, as NUL is one of the most respected organizations in America for the almost 100 years of work they have done to empower African Americans,” said David L. Cohen, Comcast Corporation Executive Vice President. “Comcast looks forward to creating opportunities that will foster their growth and leading efforts that will improve the overall quality of life for African Americans across the country.”

A key element of this partnership is the in-kind support Comcast will be providing NUL. Comcast will further develop the awareness-building efforts of NUL through the production and airing of public service announcements (PSAs) highlighting NUL programs and services. The PSAs will air in designated Comcast markets throughout the country. In addition, Comcast and NUL have committed to continue their partnership on Comcast Cares Day, Comcast’s company-wide day of service where Comcast employees, their families, and friends volunteer in their local communities.

“Comcast and NUL have enjoyed a longstanding relationship and it’s an excellent example of corporations partnering with organizations to better serve our communities,” said Payne Brown, Comcast Corporation’s Vice President of Strategic Initiatives.
Comcast joined Microsoft and Shell Oil Company as new inductees into NUL’s Five Million Dollar Hall of Fame.
