Cisco Technology Helps Enhance Oracle Deployments for Higher Performance and Productivity

Oracle OpenWorld - SAN FRANCISCO, Calif.- Cisco® today announced that it has been collaborating with Oracle in the development and validation of Reliable Datagram Sockets, an acceleration protocol to further scale Oracle® Real Application Clusters (RAC) 11g, using InfiniBand. Cisco has also worked closely with Oracle in testing and validating designs for integrating Cisco application delivery and storage networking technologies with the Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications 11i product families. These collaborative efforts support Data Center 3.0, Cisco’s strategy to help its customers develop next generation data centers that optimize application performance, service levels, efficiency and collaboration.

Oracle Real Application Clusters supports the deployment of a single database across a cluster of servers to provide fault tolerance, high performance, and scalability. Implemented as an OpenFabrics upper-layer protocol, the Reliable Datagram Sockets (RDS) protocol improves the scalability of Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g deployments using industry-standard servers, increases performance, and provides for modular growth and flexibility, while helping to reduce both capital and operating costs. Combining Cisco InfiniBand server fabric switches with the RDS interconnect protocol helps successfully accelerate and scale Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g to 16 industry-standard servers and beyond. This solution also minimizes risk for Oracle customers by providing technologies that are optimized to work together. RDS is packaged with the industry standard OpenFabrics Enterprise Distribution (OFED) Linux drivers for InfiniBand.

“For more than 20 years, Oracle and Cisco have been helping global enterprise customers automate business processes and deploy Internet-based networks,” said Judson Althoff, vice president, Worldwide Platform and Distribution Alliances at Oracle. “As one of our Global Platform Partners, Cisco brings valuable networking expertise to our collaborative efforts in several strategic technology areas and joint solutions to support our customers’ current needs and future requirements.”
Cisco Data Center Solutions for Oracle Deployments

As enterprise application users demand higher performance and productivity, Cisco and Oracle have collaborated to meet these demands in several specific data center technology areas. Cisco Wide Area Application Services (WAAS) products for WAN optimization, the Cisco Application Control Engine (ACE) for application load-balancing, and the Cisco MDS 9000 series of storage networking products have all been recently tested and validated for deployment across multiple Oracle product families. For example, Cisco ACE and WAAS products working together have been documented to increase performance for Oracle Fusion Middleware and Oracle Applications 11i when accessed by remote users across a wide area network. Additionally, Cisco ACE products have enabled more scalability and availability for Oracle applications, while reducing server and network resource requirements. Design guides for these joint solutions have been developed to support easier deployment and minimize risk. For more information please visit www.cisco.com/go/oracle.
Oracle and Cisco WebEx

In addition, Oracle and Cisco WebEx recently announced that they will offer Oracle’s Siebel CRM On Demand Service, an award-winning customer relationship management (CRM) application service, through the WebEx Connect application ecosystem. Cisco WebEx’s on-demand collaboration expertise, combined with Oracle’s enterprise-class Siebel CRM On Demand Service, creates a collaborative customer experience designed to accelerate sales cycles at businesses of any size. A WebEx Connect user can quickly build a sales mashup with WebEx Sales Center, Siebel CRM On Demand, a social networking site, and an e-mail and calendaring client. These business mashups improve productivity by integrating with WebEx Connect’s unified collaboration and communications capabilities to provide contextual collaboration within a business process.
Cisco at Oracle OpenWorld

Attendees at Oracle OpenWorld are invited to attend two Cisco presentations to learn how Cisco data center solutions for Oracle Applications optimize network performance to enhance application availability and security, while helping to reduce costs. The presentations are “Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC) 11g with Cisco Server Fabric Switches Using InfiniBand Technology” on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 12:15pm-1:15pm, at Moscone West 3024 L3, and “Data Center Network Architecture for Available, Fast, Secure, and Manageable Oracle Applications Deployments” on Thursday, Nov. 15, 8:30am-9:30am, at Marriott Golden Gate C2. Cisco is also participating on panel sessions throughout the conference. Attendees are also invited to attend the Cisco TelePresence kiosk at the Inside Innovation Interaction Zone and the WebEx kiosk at the CRM On Demand Pavilion.
Data Center 3.0

The Cisco vision for Data Center 3.0 entails the real-time, dynamic orchestration of infrastructure services from shared pools of virtualized server, storage and network resources, while optimizing application service levels, efficiency and collaboration. Cisco and its partners are helping organizations to design and build virtualized, self-defending and efficient data center infrastructure for delivering superior application performance and user experience.
