Portugal Telecom’s ISP SAPO teams up with Alcatel Lucent to make its web portal video content available on mobile phones
The solution enables one of the Portugal’s first “on the move” video advertising services
Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) announced today that it has been selected by SAPO (the leading Internet portal in Portugal and a Portugal Telecom Group company) to provide the video mixer solution to support the new SAPO Videos Mobile service. For the first time in Portugal, all users equipped with video enabled Mobile Phones will be able to see SAPO videos on the move.
SAPO Videos is a leading User Generated Content video portal in Portugal, which until now was only accessible to web users. Thanks to the integration of Alcatel-Lucent’s solution, the video portal is now accessible through mobile phones as well. The solution acts as a programmable gateway between mobile user handsets and the web portal. SAPO Videos Mobile adapts to user interaction on mobile handsets, providing contextual and personalized video play lists.
The integration of Alcatel-Lucent’s video mixer will enable SAPO to improve the end-user experience. It will also boost creativity for alternative business models such as sponsored channels with dedicated program grids and mobile-targeted advertising like pre-roll and post-roll video advertising inside the play list.
Tiago Silva Lopes, General Manager of SAPO, said “In order to extend the reach of SAPO Videos directly to mobile handset users, we needed a reliable lead partner with the best integration methodologies and flexible components that would rapidly transform our ideas into actual implementation, while leveraging the existing functionalities in SAPO Video. Alcatel-Lucent proved to be the best partner for this challenge, implementing it in a record time.”
“We are delighted to be selected by SAPO, the leading Internet portal in Portugal. We are working together, delivering the best-in-class solution, and helping SAPO to remain on the cutting edge of innovation by extending the reach of its videos directly to mobile handsets users,” added Olivier Picard, President of Alcatel-Lucent’s Europe and South activities. “Delivering multi-media solutions is at the heart of Alcatel-Lucent’s convergence strategy and this success illustrates our capacity to help our clients expand their offer through IPTV, Internet and mobile channels.”
