Scopus Takes the Next Step to Overcome the Challenges Researchers are Facing

Scopus®, the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature and quality Web sources with smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research, today announced that it has added new features to further improve research productivity and support the researchers’ workflow. The new features include the ability to search for and browse through relevant content derived from cited references, additional and flexible clustering categories in the “Refine Results” feature, the inclusion of pre-published journal articles across all subject areas - a first for any multidisciplinary abstract & citation database - and extension of the self-citation exclusion options within the Scopus Citation Tracker.

Finding More Current Content
As the pace of scientific discovery increases, finding the most current research results has become increasingly important for both academic and corporate researchers. As a response to this need, Scopus is the first multidisciplinary abstract & citation database to offer articles in pre-publication stage directly integrated in the search results, allowing researchers to stay up-to-date on the latest developments in their fields. Partnerships with leading journal publishers will ensure that research results of these “Articles-in-Press” can be found on Scopus up to four months before their official publication date.

Additionally, Scopus has improved the visibility of conference papers allowing researchers to focus on emerging scientific work and early research trends originating from conference papers. As a result, researchers are better equipped to stay up-to-date and identify all relevant information in their research area earlier.

Scopus is also proud to announce that it has added additional clustering categories, such as language of the full-text articles and source type, in its “Refine Results” feature to help users manage their search results more effectively, easily pinpointing the information they’re looking for.

Easily Explore Referenced Material
Researchers and librarians have expressed the need to more easily search for and browse through cited references of published articles and identify all citations of a group of articles. In response to that need, Scopus introduces cited references searching and browsing to provide a powerfully flexible research tool. Browsing references will allow researchers, at any time in the research process, to view all de-duplicated cited references for a set of documents in a single overview based on both backward and forward citations including features to refine, sort, link to full text and go to citing articles. Furthermore, every search in Scopus will yield an additional results tab which displays the cited references matching the query. As a result, it will be easier to locate relevant results within approximately 50 million additional references and, wherever possible, link to the relevant full-text sources.

Easily Track Influence of an Author’s Work
Scopus enhances research performance measurement by helping the user to identify the papers of an individual author, tracking their citations and analyzing their influence. With the Scopus Citation Tracker, the user has the option to exclude author self-citations, helping to track the influence of an author’s work. It is also possible to exclude self-citations by any of a paper’s co-authors. This will help users to gain an accurate insight into the number of citations an article, or a set of articles, has received outside the co-author network.
