Oracle Named #1 in Activation for the Communications Industry

WEBWIRE

Oracle today announced that OSS Observer, a leading market research firm covering the telecommunications software sector, has determined Oracle to be #1 in activation for the communications industry, according to the recently published OSS Observer report “Activation Outlook, September 2007.” OSS Observer reports it evaluated market share and forecast data for the service activation segment, assessing a total of 16 vendors serving four different lines of business: mobile, public switched telephony network (PSTN), business services and residential broadband.

According to the report, Oracle leads the industry in activation following the acquisition of MetaSolv in October 2006. Several tier-one communications service providers across multiple services in both fixed and mobile industries rely on Oracle(r) Communications Service Activation to manage the end-to-end activation of next-generation convergent services - from millions of orders per day for mobile customers to highly complex, managed IP services for business customers.

“Oracle tops the activation market, one of the strongest growth areas in telecommunications software. We expect Oracle to continue to be a leader as the market grows to an estimated $754 million in 2012,” said OSS Observer co-founder and senior analyst, Larry Goldman.

“The emerging capabilities of IT-based applications have increasingly given service providers the agility to rapidly and cost effectively deliver converged services,” said David Sharpley, vice president of product marketing and channels, Oracle Communications. “Oracle Communications Service Activation is unique in its proven ability to abstract and simplify the activation of complex IP networks and define and deploy new convergent services for both consumer and enterprise customers.”

Oracle’s multi-vendor, multi-service activation solutions have been deployed by more than 75 operators in over 26 countries for an array of traditional and next-generation services including mobile, consumer multi-play (broadband, voice, IPTV) and enterprise IP services (IP VPN, Ethernet). Oracle currently provisions numerous services over multiple network technologies for approximately 200 million subscribers worldwide.
