Duke Energy Indiana Issues Call for Renewable Energy

PLAINFIELD, IND. - Duke Energy Indiana has issued a “Request for Proposals” seeking bids for power generated from renewable energy sources, including sun, wind, water, organic matter and other sources.

“We are committed to doing more to develop and use renewable energy,” said Jim Stanley, president of Duke Energy Indiana. “We would like to diversify our supplies with more green power, and we are looking for supplies that are the right combination of price, reliability and flexibility.”

Broader use of renewable energy is part of Duke Energy’s comprehensive plan to meet its generation needs while the company continues to work to reduce its environmental impact. The plan also includes building cleaner coal power plants and expanding the size and reach of its energy efficiency programs to reduce customer power demand.

This request for proposals is specifically aimed at renewable sources. The company is seeking up to 200 megawatts by 2011. Duke Energy Indiana also recently issued a general request for proposals for up to 800 megawatts of peaking and/or intermediate generation starting in 2008 or 2009. That request did not focus exclusively on renewable power.

Duke Energy is interested in talking with potential suppliers about purchased power agreements, purchasing a generating facility, or purchased power agreements with the option to buy the facility.
