Tokyo Electron America Selects AT&T Network Services

Austin, Texas.-AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced an extension and expansion of the networking services agreement with Tokyo Electron America (TEA), the North American subsidiary of Tokyo Electron (TEL), a leading supplier of semiconductor-production equipment. The three-year agreement calls for AT&T to serve as the primary network and data services provider to TEA.

Speedy and reliable access to information is essential to TEA, especially considering the mission-critical nature of the industry that it serves. TEA’s customers operate semiconductor-fabrication sites, so a 24-hour delay of a parts order can translate into millions of dollars in lost productivity. Under terms of the agreement, AT&T will upgrade TEA to fully managed Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-based Virtual Private Network (VPN) services for improved connectivity for TEA’s headquarters in Austin as well as its regional offices across the United States.

“TEL is focused on delivering superior customer support 24 hours a day, seven days a week, which requires sophisticated applications and network services that we can rely on,” said Russ Finney, vice president of Information Systems with Tokyo Electron U.S. Holdings. “AT&T’s fully managed solution will help us continue to improve the customer experience by enhancing performance of these critical U.S.-based customer support applications.”

With MPLS, the VPN solution is provided over AT&T’s reliable, fully private, unified network and delivers robust capabilities that allow TEA to prioritize the transfer of its most critical data. AT&T’s MPLS network also provides the highest levels of reliability and can be scaled to accommodate the future growth of TEA’s network services needs.

TEA also will access AT&T BusinessDirect® — the award-winning Web portal that combines service management and support-reporting tools into a single, secure extranet site. This will provide TEA with increased visibility to the performance of its network services. The AT&T BusinessDirect portal was ranked as the best e-portal in service categories deemed critical to enterprise customers in an annual survey of leading carriers that provide wired and wireless services. The survey was conducted by the Yankee Group1.

AT&T also provides TEA with wireless voice and data solutions, local, long distance and toll-free voice services, as well as teleconferencing and AT&T Managed Internet Service (MIS). The AT&T MIS solution offers high speed dedicated access, leading-edge hardware and software, smart-routing capabilities and continuous performance-monitoring.
