Required Navigation Performance Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorization Required Procedures, Decrease Operating Costs, Improve Safety and Air Traffic Management

NBAA, ATLANTA.- Honeywell (NYSE: HON) announced today that it will offer new service options to help business jet operators utilize Required Navigation Performance Special Aircraft and Aircrew Authorization Required (RNP SAAAR) procedures.

Honeywell is offering customers a new database validation service to help them comply with RNP SAAAR data integrity requirements. The company has also applied to receive a consultancy designation from the Federal Aviation Administration that will allow it to help operators meet performance standards and transition to the new aircraft-based navigation technology. RNP SAAAR procedures help aircraft fly more precise approaches and departures, increasing operational efficiency and reducing operating costs, noise and emissions.

“Honeywell technology will enable business jet pilots to fly safer, more direct and lower minimum approaches, saving fuel and time by reducing diversions,” said Rob Wilson, President, Honeywell Business and General Aviation. “RNP SAAAR will allow business jets to land in more congested airspace and complicated terrain conditions than ever before. In fact, we are currently working to certify our own corporate aircraft for this technology.”

RNP is a key component of the FAA’s next-generation performance-based navigation system. It utilizes global positioning and inertial reference system navigation, allowing aircraft to fly predetermined paths loaded in their flight management computers. Terrain, obstructions, restricted areas and changing winds are all included in the design of RNP approaches.

Honeywell has been intimately involved with performance based navigation-related equipment and procedure development including RNP for approximately a decade.
