Band Joins peta2 in Calling for Chickens to Be Added to Humane Slaughter Act

Norfolk, Va. - Silverstein is teaming up with peta2--the world’s largest youth animal rights organization--for their upcoming “I Am Not a Nugget” tour. The Victory Records band will hit up 28 cities during its month long trek, which starts on October 2 in Rockford, Ill., and finishes up on November 4 in Asbury Park, N.J. Joining Silverstein on the tour are From Autumn to Ashes, Strike Anywhere, Dance Gavin Dance, and A Day to Remember. The tour marks peta2’s very first tour title sponsorship.

Silverstein’s tour comes on the heels of the release of their latest album, Arrivals and Departures, which debuted at number 25 on the U.S. Billboard 200 in July. At each stop along the tour, peta2 will have a booth where concertgoers can pick up literature and stickers as well as sign the “I Am Not a Nugget” petition. The petition calls on the government to include chickens in the Humane Methods of Slaughter Act, which would require that the animals be stunned before their throats are cut--as opposed to current methods, which include hanging chickens in shackles and slitting their throats while they are still conscious.

This isn’t the first time Silverstein has teamed up with peta2. In the past, the all-vegetarian band members have lent their support to peta2’s Kentucky Fried Cruelty campaign and shot an ad for peta2, in which the band declared, “Five Out of Five Members of Silverstein Agree: Cruelty to Animals Sucks.” Says guitarist Josh Bradford, “It starts with one person. Be the change you want to see in the world.”

Silverstein joins an ever-growing list of musicians--including Hawthorne Heights, Scary Kids Scaring Kids, From Autumn to Ashes, and Dillinger Escape Plan--that have teamed up with peta2 to inspire kids to challenge outdated, cruel attitudes about animals. Also featured on peta2.com are celebrity interviews, message boards, merchandise, downloadable voice-mail recordings, and chances to win great prizes like free concert tickets, iPods, and more.
