VIRGIN ATLANTICS finance department mucks in with local cimmunity project

Virgin Atlantic is today helping the Crawley community to achieve its goal of clearing and restoring the Bewbush Water Gardens so that the parkland can once again be enjoyed by local people for many years to come. Around 140 staff from the airline Finance Department have volunteered for the community project as part of its team building day.

The Water Gardens is an area of land with a large pond in Bewbush, which needs considerable care and attention to restore it to its former glory so that it can once again become an asset to the local community. Following the team’s work, other groups such as the local churches and resident volunteers who have already dedicated many hours of their time to this project, will ensure that the gardens are consistently maintained providing a pleasant parkland area in Crawley.

Tim Livett, Director of Finance at Virgin Atlantic Airways, said:

“I believe this is a fantastic way of enabling different groups to interact and get to know each other better, whilst at the same time also supporting a worthwhile cause within the local community.

“I am really pleased to see the enthusiasm that the team have shown in taking on this project – I can assure them they will get a great return on their investment!

“We are also very grateful to the other local companies who have helped to make this charity event possible.”

The Bewbush gardens project was put forward by the Crawley Volunteer centre. The airline has also been coordinating this project with the help of the Crawley Borough Council’s ‘Let’s FACE it’ campaign.

Councillor Beryl McCrow, Executive portfolio holder for leisure and culture, said:

“The regeneration of the Bewbush Water Gardens has been a major environmental volunteering project over the summer for the 60th Anniversary of Crawley celebrations and Friday’s event will be the final community action day of 60 days of volunteering.

“We’re very grateful to the staff from Virgin Atlantic and we’re hoping Friday will be a fitting finale to our 60 days of activities.”

The whole of Virgin Atlantic’s Finance Department which includes Finance, Treasury, Health and Safety, Risk and Insurance, Fuel, Procurement and Revenue Accounts are all participating in today’s charity event.
