The triple Olympic champion of the 1968 Grenoble Games, Jean-Claude Killy, will lend his support as Chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission to the organisers of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi (Russian Federation). This appointment was announced today in Lausanne by the IOC. The members of the Commission that Jean-Claude Killy will chair will be announced in due course.

Olympic legend
Jean-Claude Killy entered Olympic history as a triple gold medallist at the Winter Games in Grenoble in 1968, winning the downhill, giant slalom and slalom. Jean-Claude Killy also shone off the slopes as Co-President of the Organising Committee of the Albertville 1992 Winter Games. Elected as an IOC member in 1995, he quickly took on major responsibilities. With the Sochi Games, Jean-Claude Killy is already experiencing his fourth stint on such a commission: member for Nagano 1998, Vice-Chairman for Salt Lake City 2002 then Chairman for Turin 2006 and now for Sochi 2014.

Supervise and assist
The Games Coordination Commission supervises and assists the Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (OCOG) in the planning, construction, and implementation of the Olympic Games. The Commission acts as a liaison between the IOC, the OCOG, the International Federations (IFs) and the National Olympic Committees (NOCs). The Commission comprises representatives of the IOC, the IFs, the NOCs and one representative of the athletes as well as experts in the fields of media, environment, and TV technology. The other Coordination Commissions are chaired by Hein Verbruggen (Beijing 2008), René Fasel (Vancouver 2010) and Denis Oswald (London 2012).
