Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS), an international communications and information technology company, is showcasing a comprehensive offering of broadcast fiber optic products that enable customers to choose a fiber solution tailored to their specific application requirements. The company is displaying its OPTO+™ line, which offers innovative, cost-effective, highly reliable fiber optic solutions in a minimal amount of space — for any broadband signal transport application.
“With today’s broadcast workflow often extending across multiple locations and bandwidth requirements skyrocketing, customers are increasingly looking at fiber optics as an efficient way to manage signal transport,” said Tim Thorsteinson, president, Harris Broadcast Communications. “Our OPTO+™ products are available across some of the industry’s leading infrastructure platforms, enabling us to provide customers with top-quality fiber solutions to meet the specific requirements of their facility.”

OPTO+™ products enable the transport of audio/video (A/V) signals, as well as a complete set of complementary signal types including GPI, Ethernet, L-Band, T1/E1, DS3/T3, SONET format and DVI. Applications include post production, satellite and cable facilities, outside broadcasting, telecommunications — anywhere that .27/1.5/3 Gbps SDI transmission over fiber is required.

Unique offerings in the OPTO+™ line include a “Studio on a Module” product, which is able to transfer all signals typically found in a broadcast studio with a single module; and active optical mux/demux products, which integrate the functions of up to eight electrical-to-optical CWDM transmitters/receivers and a CWDM mux/demux on a single module.

The Harris® OPTO+™ line includes fiber optic solutions in the following broadcast applications:

OPTO+™ in Core Processing
In the industry-leading 6800+™ modular core processing platform, OPTO+™ provides a full range of quality, easy-to-use fiber solutions in a minimal amount of space. Maximum efficiency is enabled through the platform’s ability to mix and match technologies, with all fiber modules able to operate simultaneously alongside any processing or distribution modules within a 6800+™ frame.

OPTO+™ in All-in-One Processor
The X75™ is an all-in-one, 1RU solution for adaptable ingest and emission applications that solves the problem of multiple incoming signal formats by auto-detecting inputs and applying processing for video and audio. At the output or emission stage, the X75™ converts signals to the desired formats for handoff to downstream transmission points. OPTO+™ within X75™ allows a direct fiber input and/or a direct fiber optic output to a system to be converted into and out of any signal format.

OPTO+™ in Routing Switchers
The Platinum™ line of routing switchers is designed to support high-quality, 24/7 operation for network, local broadcaster, mobile production, cable, telco, military, government and corporate applications - any environment that requires routing of a large number of signals. OPTO+™ in Platinum™ allows direct optical connectivity into and from the router. Featuring user-selectable optical wavelengths, OPTO+™ supports all signals up to 1080p (SD-SDI, HDTV, ASI) to simplify optical transport and distribution.

OPTO+™ in Test and Measurement
The OPTO TEST™ product line features an assortment of easy-to-use, cost-effective, portable test and measurement instruments designed to handle most optical network test and maintenance tasks for field and mobile applications.

The OPTO+™ products are part of the core processing offerings in the Harris Broadcast Communications ONE initiative to deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The unique Harris approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
