Fujitsu Network Communications, a leading supplier of IT and wireline/wireless networking solutions, announced today that Mountain Telephone, a rural cooperative communications provider, has deployed its FLASHWAVE® optical networking products and NETSMART® management solution to deliver Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) services to West Liberty, Kentucky. An expanded suite of voice, data and video services will be possible through the use of these Fujitsu platforms.

“Mountain Telephone is a cooperative that’s owned by its users, and we need to ensure we are providing our community with the services they need in an efficient and reliable manner,” said Travis Keeton, network engineer at Mountain Telephone. “With the FLASHWAVE optical networking products, we can expand our network to give us the capacity to offer the advanced services our customers deserve, while projecting a solid Return on Investment (ROI).”

Mountain Telephone has deployed Fujitsu optical networking platforms and management systems to upgrade its existing network to a new 10 Gbps IPTV infrastructure that operates over the existing fiber infrastructure. Service flexibility is provided to the new network by the Fujitsu FLASHWAVE 4500 Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP), which allows full compatibility with the existing voice and data network while being able to offer next-generation Ethernet and video services. High-capacity transmission and future-proof scalability is provided by the FLASHWAVE 7120 optical extension system, which uses Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) to carry all services on a single optical fiber.

End-to-end management and service provisioning across the new network will be supported by the Fujitsu NETSMART software suite. This software suite simplifies the management, provisioning and surveillance of Fujitsu network elements, enabling service providers such as Mountain Telephone to quickly turn up SONET, WDM, and Ethernet services.

“Rural service providers require flexible solutions that meet existing needs, support future growth, and allow operators a progressive return on investment,” said Jim Hintze, senior vice president of marketing at Fujitsu Network Communications. “Mountain Telephone is committed to delivering the best service and best value to its subscribers, and our FLASHWAVE optical networking products and NETSMART management solutions provide them with the means to achieve this goal.”

Fujitsu Network Life Cycle Services, which support fundamental requirements for networks at all phases of their life cycle, were instrumental in the delivery of the WRCTC network. Engineering, Furnishing and Installation (EF&I) services were used to complete the initial implementation. Turn up and Test services ensured fast and efficient onsite configuration, comprehensive testing, and network connectivity. Program Management services were used throughout the entire process to ensure that deliverables were completed on time or ahead of schedule.
